                                                               Managing Director Italy

We are looking for an experienced Managing Director (MD) to supervise and control all strategic, business and operational aspects of its Italian Subsidiary, a railway undertaking part of the European network. The Company, whose headquarters are located in Milano, is one of the major players on the Italian rail freight market (more than 100 M€ turnover), proposing door to door logistics solutions to a rich portfolio of clients.

The MD is in full command in the Company and responsible for giving the proper strategic direction as well as creating a vision for success while reporting to the Holding management and applying its guidelines. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring leader. He/She will have a business mindset and will be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings. They will take actions to enhance the Company’s cash flow while keeping the human factor in perspective. The goal is to drive the Company’s profitable development and guide it towards long- term success.

 

Main missions:

  •  Define the strategy for the Company and submit it to the Shareholder for approval
  •  Define the most suitable organization for managing the Company and, subject to the
    shareholder’s prior approval, ensure to its implementation and to any measures for
    adapting the organization that may be necessary
  •  Manage, lead and control the Company’s business and operational processes, in
    accordance with its governance rules and with the goals defined in the budget and
    the yearly updated strategic plan
  • Prepare the annual budget and the long-term strategic plan of the Company, as well
    as the different phases of reforecasting in accordance with the processes established
    by the Financial Department of Rail4Logistics
  • Define the necessary actions to ensure the profitability of the Company and its
    sustainable development, and, after validation by the Shareholder or by the Vetting
    Committee, steer the implementation of these actions

 

Additional tasks :

 

  • Provide oversight of operations, in accordance with applicable regulations (especially
    the compliance with competition rules, anti-corruption rules and labour and tax
    regulations); and with special consideration for the health and safety of railway
    operating activities (compliance with the applicable regulations, control and
    maintenance of locomotives and wagons, implementation of a safety management
    system)
  • Ensure the contractual security of the Company’s relationships with customers,
    suppliers and subcontractors through contracts, and ensure the respect of contractual
    and / or legal obligations
  • Seek synergies and developments between the Company and other companies of
    the European network and the Group in general; in this respect, ensuring compliance
    with the rules for responding to customer calls for tender defined by the Group.
  •  Lead and motivate subordinates to advance employee engagement and develop a
    high performing managerial team
  •  Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the
    Company’s legality and business ethics
  •  Build trusting relationships with key partners and stakeholders and act as a
    point of contact for important shareholders
  •  Analyze problematic situations and occurrences and provide solutions to ensure
    Company’s survival and growth
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of the markets and industries addressed by the
    Company’s portfolio of services

 

Requirements and skills :

  • Proven experience as Managing Director or in other top managerial position (for
    instance CFO with a wide business overview)
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing a business vision
  • Experience of the rail industry,
  • Fluent English required: And to a lesser extent French will be a real asset
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best
    practices
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance, IT etc.
  • Knowledge of the Italian and international markets
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  •  Excellent communication and public speaking skills
